As many of you know, our go to wash mitt/pads are the fantastic Chenille Armstrong range from Clean Your Ride. I'm always looking for new ways to upgrade our detailing accessories, to make sure we are using they are safest products on the market, to ensure our safe wash processes are as safe as possible.
I started using the Chenille Armstrong range back with the original Armstrong pad, which was perfect for helping to create a safe wash process for our Ceramic Coated DC5. With it being freshly coated, I wanted to use it as a test subject for the new Wash & Dry accessories I had bought, if they were a success I would look to use them in our recent accessory upgrade.
The original Chenille Armstrong recieved a glowing report from us, and it was soon clear that the accessories from CYR were a perfect fit for what we were looking for. So fast forward to the Chenille MK2!
CYR state that the MK2 is an upgraded, double sided wash pad that is made from a higher quality Chenille, which as we know was rated at the safest wash media by Pro Detailer Magazine. The MK2 is significantly larger than the original version, so I was really interested to see how this would impact the overall use, in a professional setting.
Would the larger size be a positive or would it cause any issues with the more intricate areas?
The Chenille used in the original MK1 is super soft, holds a lot of product and aides in the slickness of the contact wash. It was also very hard wearing and stood up to the usage and being washed with a dedicated wash product, so it was very nice to see that the MK2 still had all of these important features but felt even softer and more refined.
The size of the MK2 not only allows the pad to hold a substantial amount of product, but allows you to cut down the time spent on the contact wash when focusing on the larger panels, however when it comes to the more intricate areas or smaller spaces on the car, this is where the MK2 can come into some issues as the size means it becomes bulky and requires a little more effort and time. This is where CYR new Chenille Wheel is a perfect addition to your contact wash.
For a while I was using both the MK1 and MK2 during the contact wash, it may seem unnecessary to some, but it was an nice addition to our wash process, as we could use a specific sized wash pad for different areas of the car, and in turn still speeding our wash process up, so the new Chenille Wheel was another perfect addition.
After writing our original review on Instagram, Andy from CYR had let us in to a secret of a smaller wash pad that he had in development. This smaller wash pad aimed at bikes or wheels would be perfect for the much smaller areas on a vehicle. Our Clio has a lot of these types of areas and grilles so we thought it would be a perfect test subject to see how the smaller Chenille Wash Pad would work in a contact wash.
So in comparison the MK2 is 27cm X 27cm and the new smaller Chenille Wheel is 5 x 5 Inches, and made from the same safe materials that we love from the previous CYR Chenille products.
To put the Chenille Wheel through its paces, we used it on its own for the first test, to see if the smaller size impacted our contact wash time. As expected it does take a little longer on the larger panels, which is something I wasn't too concerned about, but it smashed through the more intricate places such as badges, grills, door handles and in the smaller areas around the spoiler, making the wash process much easier. With the smaller size, there is a smaller amount of product that it is able to transfer from the bucket, however this wasn't too much of a downside as for the smaller areas it transfers plenty of product.
I think paired with either the MK1 or MK2 the Chenille Wheel is a perfect smaller wash pad that you can dedicate to those areas where a larger wash pad will start to struggle, or for a dedicated wheel wash pad.
We have continued to use the Chenille Wheel along with the MK1 or MK2 in our wash process, and paired with your favourite shampoo and 2 bucket method you can be certain that your wash process is one of the safest it can be. The Chenille Armstrong Wash Pad is a brilliant addition to your detailing kit be it with the MK1, MK2 or both!
